Reel Big Fish - Candy Coated Fury

This funky fresh band exploded out of their hometown of Huntington Beach with a mission. That mission was to make anyone who was listening to them have the time of their lives. They're currently touring with Goldfinger, Suburban Legends and various other bands. While headlining and performing as a SoCal Ska legend, they released their latest album "Candy Coated Fury" which brings back some of their catchy sounds heard in their first two albums.

Reel Big Fish starts this album off with a tune so damn catchy that people who easily faint shouldn't listen to it. Track numero uno is "Everyone Else is an Asshole".It starts off with a chorus that welcomes listeners to the album. Soon after the horns come in with a catchy verse that lets you know that this album will be glorious. This song is about how the world is full of assholes. Simple as that, but only a band like RBF can turn a simple idea into a catchy anthem. Next song that caught my attention would have to be track 3, "She's Not the End of the World". This is a song that all homies (not an Aquabats reference) can relate too. You know. That moment when you realize you homie has a girlfriend and it turns out hes the wman in the relationship and all your trying to do is prove to him that she is not the only reason for his existence (bros before hoes lol). This song will have you singing along to its repetitive chorus and frankly it's one of those songs you sing out loud no matter how many times your grandma tells you to shut the hell up. Now he next song I loved is numbah 9 on the album and is called "Don't Stop Skankin'". The first time I've ever heard this song was at the House of Blues in Hollywood and HOLY MEOW this song was so damn epic. It's one of those songs that doesn't have many lyrics and is mostly an instrumental but ends up making you stomp your feet. Another good example would have to be "One Step Beyond" which you should all know what I mean. It starts off with a one bar descending line featuring a baritone saxophone and the bass then the whole song follows with a swing drum beat while the rest of the band just does what they do best which is playing ska. The cool thing is though is that halfway through the song the trombone and trumpet just solo their hearts out while showin' off their jazzy side. What surprised me the most was a little remix of another song at the end which sounded oh so familiar. The rest of the album you guys can listen to because I'm lazy as hell but what i will tell you is that it's better than the last album in my eyes. Before i wrap this up though, i want to talk about the last song. At first i looked at track number 14 (the last track) and thought too myself. "The Promise"? That sounds familiar right? Well to my surprise the first few seconds gave it away and i had no choice but too pull out my lighter and waving it in the air like I just don't care (By the way if your still clueless they're covering the popular 80's song "The Promise" by When In Rome). This song is the perfect ending for the roller-coaster of an album that is Candy Coated Fury.

This album was overall balanced and great. They're were songs both fast and slow, rock steady and punk, stone-cold and emotional, either way my fishy needs needs have been satisfied and i can honestly say this is their best album yet. From the catchy up-beat of "Don't Stop Skankin'" to the Reggae ballad "The Promise", I couldn't help but listen to this album over and over again to make sure I didn't miss a moment of this Ska-gazmic album. So If you you haven't already experienced some good Ol' Reel Big Fish by listening to Candy Coated Fury then buy this album because they deserve your money.

So to wrap this up my favorite song would have to be "Keep On Skankin'" and I would rate this album as "Pure Ska-tisfaction". If you guys want an album reviewed then message me and let me know but please don't spam my message box because I will become angry and do everything in my power too make your life miserable.
